Hey! I'm Matt, an engineering and technology leader with more than 20 years of experience building software, designing systems, and helping engineering organizations work better at scale.

Today, my work sits at the intersection of engineering enablement, architecture, technical leadership, and AI-amplified engineering. I'm especially interested in the problems that emerge as technology organizations grow: how we scale technical decision-making, create leverage across engineering teams, build better developer experiences, and evolve the way we deliver software as the technology around us changes.

I believe the best technical leadership isn't about making every decision. It's about creating the systems, practices, platforms, and culture that enable great decisions to happen throughout an organization.

That's largely what Matt/er of Tech is about.

I write about the problems, ideas, and technologies I find interesting—usually because they're things I'm actively thinking about or working through.

That includes:

  • Engineering Leadership & Organizations — Scaling technical leadership, engineering effectiveness, organizational design, and creating leverage across teams.
  • AI-Amplified Engineering — How AI is changing software development, what engineering organizations need to do about it, and the problems that emerge when we move beyond simply giving developers better tools.
  • Architecture & Technology Strategy — System design, architecture patterns, platforms, technical standards, and making good technology decisions at scale.
  • Technology & Exploration — Occasionally, something is just interesting enough that I want to dig into it. AI, hardware, home automation, or whatever else has my attention.

I don't pretend to have all the answers. Some of the most interesting problems in technology don't have perfect answers—especially right now.

I'd rather explore what we're learning, challenge assumptions, and share the ideas that are proving useful along the way.

When I'm not thinking about this stuff, you'll usually find me playing guitar, spending time with my three sons and our dogs, or tinkering with something I probably didn't need to take apart.
